Notes From the Year After Sophie

Fleeing a tragic loss, Olive, her mother Ellen, and their three horses move to a cold, wet Pacific Northwest town. They try to assimilate into their new environment as they’re haunted by mysterious signs from Olive’s sister, Sophie, who drowned last May. Through encounters with neighboring Dahlia farmers, a Salish Indian boy, and an English teacher who assigns year-long journal writing, their lives slowly begin to take root. When one of Olive’s horses is injured by a gunshot, this unlikely group of residents and their stories become more and more tightly intertwined. Can these new relationships help Olive and Ellen recover, and find happiness again?
